What’s in my Makeup Bag

We go rummaging in the makeup bag of Stephanie Yeboah aka Nerd About Town and find out what she’s wearing and why…

Laura Mercier Transclucent Powder in Medium Deep – Finding a setting powder that doesn’t leave darker skin tones looking ashy and washed out has always been somewhat of a mission, as powders either seem to come in the generic white or pale yellow, but Laura Mercier knocks it out of the park with this super-absorbant, finely milled powder for darker skin. It’s one of my holy grail products that keeps foundation looking flawless and matte all day.

Fenty Beauty Killawatt Highlighter in ‘Trophy Wife’ – This highlighter is exceptionally pigmented, requiring only a tiny amount to create a stunning, illuminating finish. The bright golden colour looks incredible on darker skin and really packs a punch when applied. A fave!

NARS Blush in ‘Taos’ – When it comes to blushers, I normally tend to prefer warm, burnt rose shades that don’t look too dramatic against my skin tone. Taos by NARS is a gorgeous brown-based pink blush with a slight golden sheen, which provides the right amount of subtle coverage without being too unnoticeable.

MAC Eyeshadow in ‘Carbon’ – Truth be told, I have been using the same pot to fill in my eyebrows for over 5 years and I cannot bear to replace it. My eyebrow hairs are quite long and very black, so I find that using waxes and gels do nothing to shape and tame them. One day a few years ago, I decided to try Carbon with an angled brush, and haven’t looked back.

Benefit Ready, Steady Brow! Setter – I really like this eyebrow gel as it instantly works to set and seal my eyebrows in place for an extraordinarily long time!

Benefit ‘They’re Real!’ Mascara – I tend to change mascara brands quite often as I’ve never been able to find ‘the’ perfect one, however I have been using the ‘They’re Real!’ mascara from Benefit in the interim, and I find that they do give my lashes that much needed volume. I’m a big fan of comb applicators and this particular comb has a combed edge, making it handy to get the hard-to-reach lashes in the inner corner.

NYX Epic Ink Eyeliner – I’m a fan of a big winged eyeliner look, and this liner makes it incredibly easy for even a novice like me to create in no time at all. The liner is intensely pigmented and I’m a fan of the extremely narrow tip, allowing for effortless precision.

Fenty STUNNA Lip Paint – I have been consistently using this lip colour for the last 9 months or so now. Everything from the shade to the pigmentation and the texture is 10/10 for me. What I love about this product is that this specific shade of red works for everybody of all skin tones. I’m a fan of the intense colour, as well as the applicator which makes applying the lip paint precise AF. Red lipstick is an instant confidence booster for me and I can’t see myself using any other shade for the foreseeable future.

Kiehls Butterstick Lip Treatment – I use the butter stick underneath my lipstick to act as a bit of a barrier between my lips and the product. It’s a super hydrating balm that features a nourishing blend of oils and butters. It contains a large amount of shea butter, which is one of my favourite moisturising ingredients, as well as lemon butter – a well known antioxidant.

Urban Decay All Nighter Spray – I purchased this item on the strength of my social media followers’ recommendations and I am so glad I did as it is a fantastic, long lasting setting spray that allows for my makeup to stay in place without budging. It doesn’t contain any paragons or oils, and it lowers the temperature of makeup to keep foundation in place, even in hot conditions. It has been a life saver on shoots or for filming!
